A bin pump, also known as a pneumatic conveying pump or pressure vessel conveyor, is a key device in dense phase pneumatic conveying systems. It is widely used to transport dry powdery and granular materials through enclosed pipelines by means of compressed air. The system operates with a pressure vessel which is alternately filled with material and pressurized, then the material is pushed into the conveying pipe in a controlled, high-pressure, low-velocity flow.

A bin pump operates in batches. The upper discharge valve is closed, and the feeding valve opens to allow material to enter the pressure tank. Once the tank is filled to a preset level, the feeding valve closes and compressed air is introduced. The material, now fluidized by the air stream at the bottom, is pushed out through the discharge pipe. This cycle can be repeated automatically, achieving continuous conveying with multiple pumps in alternation. Key components include the tank body, feed valve, exhaust valve, discharge valve, safety valve, pressure transmitter, level sensors and a PLC control cabinet.

The pump body volume and pipe diameter are determined by these factors. Most manufacturers offer tailored solutions with different discharge methods, such as single-pump or dual-pump systems. For abrasive or fragile products, the conveying velocity can be adjusted through control valves and compressed air settings. Standard bin pumps are made of carbon steel, while stainless steel is recommended for sanitary or corrosive processes.
