Its sharp-edged stainless steel gate slices through the product stream, ensuring a tight shutoff even in abrasive conditions. In pneumatic conveying systems, this valve is often used as a discharge, dosing, or safety shutoff valve. It combines compact body design with high-strength pneumatic actuation, making it suitable for cement, mining, food processing, and chemical applications.

Valve bodies are available in cast iron, carbon steel, or stainless steel. The internal seat prevents particle buildup, allowing smooth operation and long service life. A pneumatic cylinder drives the gate open and closed with fast response and reliable force. Spring-return cylinders close automatically upon air loss, protecting equipment or preventing product flow. Solenoid valves, speed controllers, manual overrides, limit switches, and position feedback can be added for PLC or DCS automation. Explosion-proof controls should be selected for hazardous areas.

Selection requires attention to valve size, working pressure, temperature, and media characteristics. Oversizing leads to sluggish flow and sediment buildup; undersizing creates excessive pressure drop. Most knife gate valves are rated at 10 or 16 bar, with higher ratings available. Temperature range determines seat and body materials. Particle content and abrasiveness affect gate and seat wear. Air supply should be clean and dry, normally 4 to 7 bar.

These valves are widely used in pneumatic conveying systems for cement, fly ash, lime powder, flour, starch, plastic pellets, and chemical powders. Installed at silo, cyclone, or bag filter outlets, they discharge material and isolate equipment during maintenance. Quick open-close action maintains stable material flow and minimizes bridging. A robust valve with quality cylinder and wear-resistant seat reduces downtime and total cost of ownership.

A qualified manufacturer supplies technical specifications, material certificates, test reports, and dimensional drawings. Standard sizes range from DN50 to DN600 or larger. Manufacturing includes CNC machining, precision welding, pressure testing, and actuator functional testing. When comparing prices, consider maintenance and replacement costs, not just purchase price.
