Heavy calcium carbonate powder, also known as ground calcium carbonate or GCC, is widely used in plastics, coatings, paper, rubber, and building materials. Since it is produced by mechanical grinding, its particles are sharp and abrasive. Moisture, particle size, and bulk density affect flow behavior. Poorly designed handling can cause blockages, dust, wear, and product degradation. A reliable pneumatic conveying solution must therefore be engineered around the actual powder properties.

Pneumatic conveying can be dilute phase or dense phase. Dilute phase uses high air velocity and low pressure to suspend powder in the air stream; it suits short distances and less abrasive materials. Dense phase moves powder at low velocity under positive pressure, usually as plugs or slugs. For heavy calcium carbonate, dense phase is preferred because it reduces wear, avoids particle breakage, lowers energy use, and creates less dust.

Air supply and dust collection must match system pressure and airflow. Roots blowers work well for dilute phase and low pressure dense phase. Screw compressors are selected for long distances. Variable frequency drives adjust airflow and save energy. At the receiving bin, a baghouse or cartridge filter separates powder from air. Reverse pulse jet cleaning prevents clogging. Although calcium carbonate is non-combustible, grounding, bin venting, and pressure monitoring should follow local safety regulations.

Every conveying project is customized according to material and site conditions. We test the actual GCC sample for flowability, bulk density, particle size, moisture, and abrasiveness. Then we determine capacity, distance, route, number of receiving points, and installation space. Systems can handle from 1 ton per hour to 50 tons per hour or more. Multi-point piping directs material to different silos, mixers, reactors, or packing lines. Future expansion and remote monitoring are also considered.

Enclosed pneumatic conveying keeps the plant clean, reduces product loss, and eliminates dust.
