Pneumatic Conveying of Chemical Additive Powder, Phnom Penh
This is a project report about a pneumatic conveying system designed for chemical additive powder feeding in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Shandong Headpowder Engineering Co., Ltd., abbreviated as Headpowder, supplied this turnkey solution. The system transfers additives from bulk bags to multiple process hoppers in a fully enclosed, automated, and dust-free way, ensuring safe and efficient production. The project scope included process design, equipment fabrication, installation supervision, and operator training.
Previously, the customer used manual bag dumping. Workers cut bags and poured powder into hoppers, causing dust emission, product losses, and unstable feeding. As the plant expanded, the customer needed a new solution. Headpowder tested the powder, analyzed its flowability and particle size, and designed a dilute phase pressure conveying system to meet the local production requirements. The material has a bulk density of approximately 600 kg/m³ and an average particle size of 120 microns.
The main equipment includes a bulk bag unloading station, rotary feeder, roots blower, stainless steel pipeline, reverse-jet filter receiver, pneumatic divert valves, and a PLC control panel. The conveying distance is about 50 meters with a vertical lift of 8 meters. Three feeding points are selected automatically. All contact parts are made of 304 stainless steel to avoid contamination. The pipeline is designed with long-radius bends to minimize wear and pressure drop.
In automatic mode, the PLC starts the blower and the rotary feeder after the operator chooses the destination. Material is metered into the pipeline and carried by air to the receiver. The filter separates air and powder. Reverse pulse jets clean the filter bags periodically to keep a stable conveying capacity. The closed pipeline prevents any dust from escaping into the workshop. The system stops automatically in case of abnormal pressure to prevent pipe blockage.
This system offers many benefits. It reduces labor cost by 60%, increases productivity by 30%, and eliminates material spillage. The conveying capacity is adjustable from 0.5 to 4 tons per hour. The actual throughput for the specific additive powder reached 2.2 tons per hour. Dosing is accurate, and cross-contamination is completely avoided. In addition, the system operates at a low noise level below 75 dB, improving working comfort.
The project was successfully commissioned in Phnom Penh. Operators were trained on site, and the smoke test showed zero dust leakage. The customer was satisfied with the system's reliability and ease of maintenance. This successful case demonstrates Headpowder's capability to execute pneumatic conveying projects in Southeast Asia.
